Wild rose is a common species of shrub from the rose family. It grows wild in the northern hemisphere in the temperate and warm zone. It has also spread to Australia and New Zealand.
Rose has been used in Poland since the Middle Ages. In the form of infusions, it was used for colds and diseases with high fever, as well as for liver ailments and diarrhea. It was also believed to have cooling and drying properties, so wild rose compresses were used for difficult-to-heal, purulent wounds, ulcers and burns.
The herbal raw material is ripe fruit harvested at the appropriate time and dried at a moderately high temperature. Rose hips contain large amounts of vitamin C, but also vitamins B2, K, PP, E. In addition to vitamins, they contain: tannins, carotenoids, organic acids, essential oils, pectins and sugars.
