PROPOLIS
It is a mixture of resinous substances collected by bees from buds and young shoots of trees (e.g. poplar, birch, spruce, chestnut) and other plants, as well as secretions of bee glands. It has a specific, balsamic scent, a mixture of honey, pine needles and tree buds.
Propolis is a very complex substance, extremely rich in biologically active compounds (approx. 300). Noteworthy among them are bioactive compounds with medicinal and nutritional properties: resins, waxes, essential oils, pollen, flavonoids, carbohydrates, organic acids, lipid and protein substances, coumarins, bioelements (calcium, manganese, magnesium, zinc, tin, copper, silicon, iron, aluminum, silver, sodium, potassium, chromium, strontium, barium, cadmium, vanadium, titanium), vitamins: provitamin A, vitamin B1, B2, B5, B6, C, D, E.
In folk medicine, propolis has long been used externally and internally (in the form of tinctures, extracts) as a bactericidal, antiviral and antifungal agent. It was also used for skin regeneration and for local anesthesia. Called a natural antibiotic, it has strong anti-inflammatory and soothing effects. It perfectly accelerates skin regeneration, which is why its beneficial effects on difficult-to-heal wounds, herpes, ulcers, frostbite, burns and bedsores have been known for centuries. Despite the excellent and undeniable properties and effects of propolis, it should be remembered that it may cause allergic reactions (resulting from the very rich composition of propolis).
