Rowan is found not only in forests, but also in parks, gardens and along streets – rowan is also an ornamental tree. It blooms in early May, but it looks most beautiful in autumn, when fully ripe fruits take on a deep red color. The round berries have a tart and bitter taste. They stay on the tree for quite a long time after the leaves fall.

Rowan berries contain a lot of valuable substances. Among them, we find vitamins such as: A, C, E, K. Fruits are also very rich in vitamin C, they are also another source of vitamin P, and some species of rowan have more of both vitamins than apples and pears. Provides minerals: copper, potassium, magnesium and sodium. Additionally, it contains anthocyanins, organic acids, tannins, flavonoids, bitters, terpenes and sugars, including fructose.

Rowan – according to the literature, rowan berries have properties that were used to alleviate the following ailments:

  • as a diuretic and useful in mild gastrointestinal catarrhs,
  • decoction of rowan berries for gargling with hoarseness,

  • recommended for the prevention of urolithiasis, diabetes, rheumatism, metabolic disorders and arthritis,
  • increases uric acid excretion,
  • prevents hypovitaminosis C,
  • stimulates metabolism,
  • fruits stimulate intestinal function, have anti-inflammatory effects on the mucous membranes of the stomach and intestines, and soothe liver irritation.
